TESTIMONIALS

Eldowy Tours with Gwen and Mohamed did the utmost in making its guests feel at ease and informed. With Gwen working behind the scenes and giving us a sense of the spirituality of the region, the depth of understanding was truly amazing. Mohamed loves his country and this was shown by his attention to detail in explaining hieroglyphs and the various spectrums of Egyptian antiquities.

When considering a journey into a Middle Eastern country, safety is usually the main concern for western travelers.

I traveled to Egypt with Eldowy Tours in October 2005 and again January 2006, both times taking American citizens with me. At no time did we feel anything but absolutely cared for by Eldowy Tours. Our every possible need was anticipated and accommodated, even beyond our expectations.

As a photographer/artist/writer that is not always an easy job for a tour company, but Eldowy Tours rose above what normal tour companies usually offer to meet my particular requirements.

The tours are well planned, the accommodations carefully selected for your comfort and everything is mediated to ensure that your experience is worry free. I would /have absolutely recommended Eldowy Tours, and would travel with them again in a heartbeat.

If you have any specific questions or other concerns, please feel free to contact me.

In October 2005 my wife Jan and I had the pleasure of traveling to Egypt with Gwen and Mohamed of Eldowy tours. We had a very good experience with them. Gwen and Mohamed were both very concerned we had a good trip and made every effort to ensure our experiences were meaningful. The accommodations were wonderful, the meals tasty, and most important, safe to eat.

Mohamed is a very knowledgeable tour guide, and his experience and contacts as a Director of Antiquities allowed us to see many things not seen by all tourists to Egypt.

Gwen’s passion for Egypt, particularly her knowledge about the more metaphysical and esoteric subjects like the spirituality and mysteries of ancient Egypt were evident, and provided a good balance against the more traditional historical information provided by Mohamed. Having both of them with us enhanced my experience.

Egypt to me is both a country of the past and the present. Coming into Cairo my first impression was busy but vibrant, and a bit crowded which is not surprising given it has a population of over 17 million. Arriving at night after a long flight, it was comforting to see a friendly Eldowy Tours representative to greet us at the airport and assist us in going through customs and getting our luggage.

From there a trip into to our hotel by private coach, gave us a chance see the city, with minarets and mosques on almost every corner, and people everywhere. If you like hustle and bustle, Cairo is right for you. You need a good driver however like Ali who looked after us in Cairo for Eldowy Tours.

But of course, our main reason to travel to Egypt was to see the spectacular ruins of ancient Egypt. The first view of the three great pyramids at Giza which dominate the skyline from downtown Cairo was breathtaking. Then to make it better our rooms at our five star hotel, had a views of the pyramids too.

Our hotel views didn’t prepare me for our visit to the Great Pyramid of Cheops at Giza the next day. The size and scope of this marvel, is almost beyond comprehension, particularly when you consider it was built over 4500 years ago. Months later I am still pondering the questions, like how did they do it, and why did they build it and the other structures they did, and who exactly were the ancient Egyptians. Going inside the Cheops pyramid was like going into a hollow mountain. It must have been beyond belief when it was built and covered with polished granite to reflect the rays of the sun.

Then it was off to cruise the Nile on a deluxe river boat visiting three temples, learning about many of the ancient Egyptian deities along the way from both Mohamed and Gwen. Arriving at Luxor we then toured the many temples and funeries in the area. My favourites were Karnack temple because of its obelisks and columns and the finery of Hachetsup carved into a cliff. Then we went to the Valley of the Kings. This area was my highlight of the trip after the Giza. Shipboard accommodation was luxurious and spacious, and the food was the best we ate on the trip. All this during Ramadan when the chefs couldn’t eat until sundown themselves.

In the Valley of the Artisans, the paintings on the walls of the tombs look like they had been done yesterday. They were breath taking. It makes me wonder how beautiful the relief’s and stone carvings we saw at the many temples we visited on our journey would have like when they were new. Even the remaining coloration is awe inspiring.

We wrapped our trip up with a couple of days of relaxation at Hergada on the Red Sea, which was a nice finish to the trip, then back to Cairo to visit the souk to buy papyruses and other souvenirs and of course spend a day in the Cairo museum.. The rumours you would need a week or more to visit all of the exhibits are true, we only did one floor in a day, there was so much to see.

My lingering impression of Egypt and this particular tour was it was truly a taste of Egypt. I’m left with questions as: how did they do it, build these magnificent monuments, and have a thriving and powerful civilization, which from a time and relic perspective was one if not the greatest civilization in human history. And why?

If you are searching for source, Egypt is a good place to start.

A Glimpse of Egypt (Eldowy Tours) co-ordinated a fabulous, worry free trip to Egypt for me. Everything was meticulously taken care of - from my flights, to the hotel, to the choice of sites visited, to the local drivers and vehicles I was provided. Their attention to detail made my trip an unforgettable experience. One of the many high lights that made my experience with Eldowy Tours outstanding was my local Egyptian guide, who was friendly, extremely well versed in Egyptology and spoke excellent English. He was superb and was a big part of what made my trip so unique.

I recommend Eldowy Tours without hesitation for a trip that surpasses all expectations.

Introducing Egypt to my son through Eldowy Tours was a “safe” and meaningful way to share the world with my children. I work in the developing world frequently, and am often in the Middle East and North Africa. Sharing the richness of this world with my family is however challenging. As a parent, you want your children to appreciate how others live, and to better understand your own life experiences. Having Mohammed to guide this introduction to Egypt provided a safe portal. Mohammed was able to share “his” world with my son and I in an authentic, credible and inspirational way. As an Egyptian, Mohammed gave us a clear window into his country’s history, and into the lives of individual Egyptians.

Beyond the physical experience of visiting ancient sites and the majestic beauty of the Nile, Eldowy Tours was able to provide unique access to inspirational sites in Egypt. Not content to just visit a pyramid or temple, Mohammed and Gwen took great efforts to ensure that opportunities for meditation, reflection and personal spiritual connections were provided. As a member of the archaeological community in Egypt, Mohammed was able to provide our group with unique access to spiritual “hot spots”. I left Egypt feeling invigorated, clarified and spiritually enriched and renewed. Now that is how you want to return home from a vacation!

My trip to Egypt in October of 2005 was absolutely one of the most memorable trips of my lifetime. Plus, he seemed to barter well for us.

What sets this tour apart from everything else I have experience in my travels over the years was the absolute first class experience of almost every adventure. This definitely included the accommodations and the food. Another factor which was great was that we had large blocks of free time to just relax, shop, or just sit and observe our surroundings. Too often on other tours, there is too much rushing from place to place , and it all soon becomes a blur. I really enjoyed the pace with which Eldowy Tours moved.

Gwen and Mohamed are also just fun people to be around .. There was a sense of friendship and caring I have rarely seen on travel tours. All of the aforementioned traits made me just have a really great and safe vacation with two wonderful guides.

I would highly recommend Mohamed Eldowy as a guide for any temple or part of the necropolis you might wish to visit. He is completely trustworthy and extremely well qualified, probably much better qualified that most other guides. He has been extremely helpful and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

Dear Mohamed,

We met incidentally in the temple of Dendera and asked you to explain to us about this temple.

We so much enjoyed your stories and explanations where you took all the time to tell us about your ancient gods and the history that we also asked you if you could accompany us visiting the tombs and temple at the West Bank

Also this was a great experience, visit the Nefertari and other tombs.

We would like to thank you for this, we learned a lot and without your explanations we would have missed more than 90%

Hopefully we will meet again, whenever we return to this beautiful country.
